| I donno what the heck just happened but my laptop just shut itself down twice in a row. My screen froze and then powered down, so I just restarted the computer and told it to start normally. No problems there. Then I log back into RotR and I'm dead, which is annoying. As I'm about to click "respawn" my screen goes all sorts of crazy with glitched colors and whatever I have no idea. So, I just held my power button until it shut down, let it sit for a couple minutes, then tried to power it back up. Now the screen doesn't display anything at all. I have no idea what's going on.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it, I have:
DELL Inspiron 1420

| Likely heat issue. Happened when one of my vid cards started having a melt down. |

| I have a Nvidia Geforce 8400 inside of it. Is this a known problem with video cards like that? |

| Check the heat sinks. When I had that card, mine fell off because they were only held on with double sided tape. |

| Well..I'll hand that over to my dad to do..I'm not exactly computer savvy. Until then I'll just be using my mom's laptop to play nwn. I'll have to download CEP and everything else first *sighs and gets ready for the 5 hour DL spree* |

| Well' iv had this problem before (my graphics card overheating)and this is what i did... Expose the parts and put a stronge, but compacked fan pointed at the guts on full blast. This prevents overheating like a charm ;D. It' also helps if you have a headset to cancle out the noise.

| I was thinking of buying one of those laptop fans..you know the type you just set the thing on? Assuming my laptop ever powers up again. At the moment, the DELL powerup screen isn't even coming on, the screen is just staying black, but the light is on |

| That sound like what happened when my comp overheated. My big fan at the back of the comp died, and so did my vid card fan at the same time! Freakin' horrible. BTW don't pay Best Buy to reinstall that shit, you can do it yourself and save $40. |

| Well, it looks like I'm going to mail my baby into Dell (wherever their mysterious repair-o warehouse is...*cue lightning*) and they're going to replace my motherboard. Never fear though, my pops is removing the hard drive before hand so that all my stuff will be exactly as it was before it exploded.
Onto the bad news: I probably will be sparse at best in the coming week or two. I have this backup to use, but not very often. I'll try to check the forums every so often but *shrugs* who knows.
Hope to be back in a timely manner...as timely as waiting for Dell to fix my shit then mail it back. Meh at least it's still under warranty so they're doing it for free. |
