Remember all those player-becomes-npc problems and related server crashes we were having? I finally remembered what causes it and found a proper solution.
This is VERY important if you are sharing a router with someone. If you don't do this, you will make the whole server go fuzzy.
The problem is, every client uses exactly the same port, this confuses the poor NWN server to think you are actually the same client running two characters at a time. To solve this:
- Go into your nwn main directory.
- Open up "nwnplayer.ini"
- Find the line saying (by default) "Client Port=5120". Over at my end its the second line underneath the [Profile] tab.
- Change the port number to a unique (for your router) port. EACH computer connected to the same router needs to use a separate port.
All done. This should help our recent crashing problems, since afaik this was being caused by it. If you see a player-character that is an NPC, this could be casused by this very bug. Other symptoms might include: PC Valut "transfers" of characters from the router-sharing accounts, random switching back-and-forth between the NPCed char and the one currently being played. If anyone ever complains of similar things, this should pretty much clear them up for him. And not crash/make the server wierd.
