NWN isn't quite dead yet. It's a shadow of what it was a few years back, but the heart lingers.

I've moved on to the Andrune server now. The setting's a bit unusual; think Forgotten Realms with a heavy dose of Celtic mythology. We're talking Firbolg, the Tuatha de Danaan, the Fomorians and all that jazz. I'm playing a Yewbender Tuatha Arcane Archer and lovin' it. :]

Also, Andrune has zero horny lesbians. So clearly Daze needs to get out there and sample more servers. And if they weren't run by small inbred packs of sadistic, circle-jerking fascists, I might also recommend Prisoners of the Mist and The Way Inn; if there's one nice thing that could be said about those Nazi DM Teams, they'll shotgun-WTF-insta-perma-ban your half-drow furry omnisexual tranny without a trial if they so little as see you roleplay two words about her "heaving breasts," "throbbing cock" or "heated cheeks". Ba-BAM!!! Instant Ultra Bannage. >:]

(Even though I left Modern Zombie Survival over a combination of repetitive gameplay, rampant player drama, shoddy scripting, Drakaden's stupid self-serving ass and Zebora's incessant drama (local and imported from other servers) and bellyaching and favor-mooching, I did have my fond moments of DMing, which included using my DM Toolbox to grief the aforementioned sex freaks, who, although not forbidden by the server rules, were still annoying as hell and not quite in sync with the whole Zombie Apocalypse theme. Therefore, nothing guaranteed that half a dozen Lurkers would come crawling out of the nearest toilet to eat your naked ass quite like DM Rhodes (read: me) stumbling across your slobbery marathon lesbian threesome. I've never seen a group of naked women with shotguns and katanas dry their pussies and run so fast. On a related note, fuck PowderdJedi. It's sad that this server had to die and that these forums got wiped again, but we've already gone over the whole riff with drama queens and lost potential and Pervert cussing his damn fool head off like he just slammed his dick in a car door (...as usual). But hey, it was good while it lasted. Like that one time when Daze had Zaniya disarm some other bounty hunter's bomb before it took out the whole building. Heady stuff there.

But let's not feel like we owe Quix one damned thing. He's the one who shot this server in the bowels and left it to die. And I, for one, call that a goddamned betrayal which overbears every last good thing he ever did for us. Instead, let's give our gratitude to Daze and the rest of the DMs who kept this server running for as long as they could, even without anyone pushing them from the top. Hats off to you, Daze and Company.

But I still say that if the DM Team had just given the Commerce Guild even half as much attention as they gave those drama-flinging Imps and Rebs over the years, the Guild would have bought out both sides and converted every Star Destroyer and MC Cruiser into one huge fleet of interstellar luxury liners so we could all play out our favorite scenes from "The Suite Life on Deck" everyday, and everything would have turned out just fine...at least until the Yuuzhan Vong showed up.

QFT. I lept from this Titanic of a server the moment it connected with the cunt-dripping depths of irrecoverableness. You all know that feeling, like when you lose your engagement ring in the sphincter of that prostitute you were anally fisting.

Let's not point fingers at Quix. He didn't leave the server to rot. He got a goddamn life outside the 1024x768 box you morons keep clutching to like it's your precious dicks... Somedays I cannot work out if there's a difference for you lot.

DMing for you all was taxing (Read: Fuck that);
Dealing with QQ-Drama which was unnecessary (Read: Grow the fuck up).
Developing for the server felt unrewarding and pointless (Read: Why fucking bother?)

In the end, it came down to this, for most of the staff: Their thoughts on dealing with the shit scraped from the bottom of the scum bucket that is RotR's playerbase? Fuck. No.

Why log in to try create immersion when it's the same players bitching to you about the same shit every. Fucking. Day. And it's not even because they have concerns anymore! It's because they're fucking right about everything and we should bend and contort to their fucked up reasoning. Only one on the server I could stand by the end of it? Daze and Patrick.

Why? Because at least those two didn't cause such blatant toxicity in the player base. Patty spoke his mind - And didn't feel it necessary to go over it again. And again. And again. Every. Fucking. Five. Minutes.

Contrary to me just speaking about the solemnity of the thread, I just had a thought. It seems all those who actually still give a crepe about this game are gathered here. Would you lot be interested in one last campaign? I happen to be a creator of sessions-based, story driven, private modules. I just thought... maybe... it'd be fun if we all got together to do something really engaging like that, with, you know, the RIGHT people for once.

If you are unconvinced at how much fun this'll be, you can consult with Daze or ProvisionalRebel. I led them both through this before.

You'll need to commit at least one day a week to participate.

First and foremost, why are the forums absolutely cooked when the server's still up? I know we don't have access to Quix to tell him to shut it off, but like what made us finlly throw in the towel? Sorry, I'm doing my final year of school so I've been away a fair bit.

What I had in mind is a reconstruction of an older module I did that's tried and true, "The Avarice of Man." It's a modern day short campaign about "a hidden chapter in human history" as Daze put it. I'd call it 1 packet Penumbra (the game) flavoring, 1 packet Silent Hill flavoring, and 3 packets L0L Wut original recipe.

As for your character, a lvl 2 using modern d20 classes. Just a normal fellow. Student, blue collar, white collar, military grunt, scientist, detective, doctor, athlete, bodyguard, singer, et cetera. They'll be unwittingly thrust into the events of the campaign. ProvisionalRebel was a photographer, and I think Daze just played as himself... lol.

No he's not. The staff ultimately bailed out because working on this place has never been rewarding. That's why every staff has bailed in cycles since this server came to be. Like the Reapers of Mass Effect or Liam Neeson from Batman Begins, the cycle of destruction has come about just as the server reached its height of decadence. (ie: Grief from a relentlessly shitty playerbase composed of drama queens, atrocious roleplayers, gripers and cybersex freaks, with a few exceptions.)

There are other reasons, such as lack of organization, but that really sums it up. The place was never rewarding to staff or DM for. That basic problem leads to countless others, ultimately resulting in it never happening right.

Oh, sorry. This is a somber thread. Nothing to see here, folks.

Well, it sucks this server is gone. Sorry I didn't live up to everyone's expectations and was annoying at times, just tried to do something worthwhile on my characters. Anyway, generally speaking this was a good server and I'm going to miss it.

As for NWN being dead, that's quite wrong. There's still Arelith, Escape from Undeath: Mistlocke, City of Arabel, Ravenloft, and many more. Mistlocke in particular is very good, I've been playing there for four years now. The others I never really played as much, so not sure what's going on with them aside from them still being active.

No doubt a few people reading this, if anyone even checks in anymore, are thinking "No, NS, NWN is dead." No it's not. NWN simply isn't dead yet, nor will it be for many years. There are still people showing up who are completely new not only to a particular server, but NWN entirely. Servers are still updating, adding new content, new ones pop up from time to time, old ones die.

Mistlocke in particular is the sort of server that survives in the long run, because it is what this server tried to be: a server with a story and plotline that players could influence (which is why I was always trying to get shit done on my Imperials, because I WAS TOLD TO, if you didn't want players pursuing things, you should have told us to take a back seat, or better yet, log off and go watch the movies). What's more, stagnation doesn't exist there, because of the existence of perma-death in PvP. Now, that sounds rather extreme, being perma'd in PvP, but with the existence of subdual modes as well, FD (full damage) deaths are rare and given only in extreme situations, BY OTHER PLAYERS. It isn't something DM's have any real say in, unless they want to retcon a death, which I have only seen happen once in four years (aside from stupid random half-orc griefers who log in with greataxes.. typically being killed instantly anyway), meaning we don't have random high levels sticking around for years well past their relevance, but instead a steady influx of new PC's.

No, NWN is not dead. Sure, large portions of NWN's playerbase are poor RP'ers, griefers, sex-deprived loners, drama queens, or just plain annoying, but WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THEM?! Yes, I probably fit in with one or two of those, but who gives a fuck? Stick with the people you like and ignore the rest at least, or try and help the others become something the rest of the world can tolerate if you're feeling particularly generous with helpful advice.
