it works if you simply kill and raise them too? (that is how I've done it)

11) A shop where one can buy new ships, maybe. Make them very expensive, obviously. Maybe even put in ships that folks can't get from the starting missions, too, if possible.

Yeah its the one your thinking of, but I had two or so cases where that didnt work, so I had to use the penguin trick.
