| Several wookiepedia posts seem to disagree with that statement, like for instance: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Civil_War(See especially the early years) http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Corellian_Treaty| Quote: | | The treaty inspired dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of resistance cells across the galaxy to join the Alliance, such as Sian Tevv and the Sullustans and Jennsar So-Billes and his Duro fighters. Several organizations became part of the Rebel Alliance, including Kota's Militia and most of the surviving Separatist holdouts. |
And finally, on the whole "Rebel Terrorists" and whatnot plot point, this was also addressed way before the Battle of Yavin took place:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Declaration_of_Rebellion
This of course does not state that the Rebellion is at this moment in a position to challenge the Empire by pure military strength. The argument I've seen presented to me on this topic by a DM is that "At this point, the Rebels are a disorganized bunch", which is simply untrue. Before the Battle of Yavin took place, the Rebels had an organized, working rank and power structure, ready to stage an all out civil war, which they sort of did start by the said declaration. The fact that Palpy chose to pretty much ignore them before the DS was blown up didn't help at all.
No, the Rebels are not able to launch full scale assaults on the Empire, like the other side is able to. But this does not mean they don't have a working ground/space based force and whatnot, combined with their guerrilla, or how its called these days, insurgent combat methods made them ultimately a force to be at least reckoned with. A real DM clarification on this issue would be nice though, I agree. _________________ "Let us fly away, let us praise the days, When the lust for the life is stronger than the fear. | Canonically, yes. All of that mentioned applies. Here? I don't so much think so.The Rebs, for the time being, are out manned and out gunned, As far as I've noticed. Does this make them specks? Hell naw. Does it mean that open combat isn't so much a good idea? I'd think so. |

| I don't think you need to look further than the Tarkin doctrine to know that the empire takes rebellion, or at least the threat therof, as a major threat. Imperials aren't entirely stupid. They're not going to destroy highly productive industrialized worlds unless there is a serious threat. Additionally, the fact that the rebels were able to muster a force capable of winning several major battles and ultimately conquering the galaxy suggests that the rebels had a vast quantity of resources and support at their disposal, even if still much less than the Empire. More importantly, 'outgunned and outmanned' is one thing, but entirely one-sided wars make for boring RP and PVP in a PW environment. (Tangentially, the rebels have been the 'victors' in most of the pvp events that have happened - this has probably done something to accelerate the rate at which the rebellion becomes a major threat to the empire) |
